13 Things Should Be Avoided in WordPress SEO

For the time being, with an ever-increasing number of websites, WordPress SEO has become an indispensable job for every online site. Although WordPress SEO is a daunting task, it is currently a fortune-earning hot job and WordPress SEO plays an integral role in boosting sales and profits. However, almost all WordPress SEO-ers commit some deadly mistakes at the starting point of learning WordPress SEO and cause some damage to their websites in terms of page rankings, page quality and indexing. In this post, I give a collection of should-not-use mistakes in WordPress SEO.

Beware of these mistakes and your website will rank higher on Google and get more traffic.

On-site faults

Use Flash

Flash brings about some cons: increasing page loading time, requiring a flash player to watch flash videos and on top of that, blocking search engines from crawling pages. These drawbacks of flash certainly prevent our searchers from approaching our website and converting to potential customers.

Use META tag keywords

There are some reasons why we should not use meta tag keywords. Firstly, your competitors are easy to check your targeted keywords. Secondly, only a few profits are not equivalent to a great deal of consumed time. Thirdly, meta tag keywords are considered as negative ranking signals.

Copy others’ posts

Copying other author’s posts is no good at all. Firstly, your page’s search engine ranking position is low and cannot reach customers. Secondly, your website fame is going to be ruined if customers find similar content in the root source appearing on your website.

No keyword in page name

Although page names are optional and keywords in page names are not compulsory, the keyword existence in page names is a plus point. Google likes to scan all targeted keywords appeared in page names.

No WordPress SEO plugin

An SEO plugin is a vital element in your website package of plugins. This type of WordPress plugins functions to check your post and point out your post’s shortcomings which lower your page’s SEO. So you now can imagine how your post may be at risk if there is no support for an SEO plugin.

No XML sitemap

There are millions of websites and pages nowadays so Google spiders cannot avoid missing to index some pages. In this case, XML sitemaps are an effective solution. XML sitemaps present your details on your pages and allow Google to be aware of change frequencies of your page content.
Let’s take a prompt action because every your effort will become zero if your page is not indexed.

No linking between posts

In order to be certainly indexed by Google, your posts need linking to other pages of relevant content.

Index the wrong pages

It is better that your pages of no value in case of being searched are not indexed. Hence, your website is tidier. A typical example of these types of pages is thank-you pages.

Only use keywords in titles and meta descriptions

That Keywords appear only in titles and meta descriptions is a big mistake. Be aware that the rate of keywords should be about 2% of the total post words.

Focus on highly-competitive & single keywords

Highly-competitive keywords are searched by many consumers and used by many authors. Hence, if your website starts from scratch, these widely-chosen keywords do no help in getting more traffic to your website because your website needs to surpass a great number of rivals before it can appear on the 1st Google page and access customers. Besides, single keywords are normally typed by unpotential customers. If they would really like to buy your products, they are likely to use long keywords which include all their desired product features. Therefore, single keywords are no use at all.

Off-site faults

Use only one anchor text or meaningless words such as “here” or “click here”

Using meaningless anchor texts doesn’t bring about any benefit but exerts some adverse possibilities such as missing an opportunity to pass along keyword rich anchor text votes for pages that you are linking to. By contrast, descriptive anchor texts are more appealing to both talking browsers, screen readers and search engines.

Link words and pages to spam pages or poor-quality websites

There is a saying that “Birds of the same feather flock together”. This sentence’s implication can help to explain this deadly mistake of linking your page to spam pages or poor-quality pages. Be noted that search engines also judge your pages on the grounds of the pages that your pages link to. Your page ranking can be lowered by your linked spam pages.

Post similar content on many websites

It is not ideal at all to duplicate the same content onto a lot of websites because Google’s Panda is created to deal with this issue. As for Google’s viewpoint and customers’ viewpoints, they long for informative, helpful but unique information.

In conclusion

Short routes are exposed to many risks. Moreover, no short route leads to long-term success. Hence, let’s try to be as industrious as possible with optimizing your website to search engines and keep your website away from the SEO tricks and deadly mistakes mentioned above.
